  • Title GS E&C Develops AI-Based Construction Manual “Xi-Book”2025.03.10

GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) has developed an AI-powered construction manual program called “Xi-Book”, enabling engineers to easily search and access up-to-date construction standards anytime and anywhere—advancing the company’s digital transformation of construction sites.

The internally developed Xi-Book integrates over 5,000 pages of GS E&C’s residential construction specifications, standard guidelines, and LH (Korea Land and Housing Corporation) specifications into an AI-driven search system. Instead of manually searching through numerous documents or files during quality inspections, users can now find the desired information in seconds by simply entering their query into Xi-Book.

In addition to providing the requested content, Xi-Book also offers links to relevant YouTube videos, helping less experienced engineers better understand construction standards. Users can easily share the search results with colleagues via links, enhancing communication and improving work efficiency on site.

Xi-Book was piloted at select construction sites until November last year. Based on feedback from actual site users, GS E&C enhanced the platform by adding Gen AI-powered image and text extraction features and enabling search through company-trained internal data. The company plans to expand Xi-Book into an app version, ensuring smooth usability even in environments with limited internet access.

A GS E&C site manager commented, “Previously, construction handbooks were only available in printed or file formats, making it difficult to quickly find specific information among hundreds of pages. With Xi-Book, we can easily verify construction quality in line with standard specifications using AI technology and share insights instantly with team members—even from outside the site.”

A GS E&C official who led the Xi-Book development added, “We are developing various AI-powered tools that can be practically used in the field through close collaboration between on-site teams and our in-house development organization. Xi-Book will continue to evolve to include safety, quality, and other operational standards, strengthening site quality and safety through user-centered digital transformation (DX).”
