  • Title GS E&C Files Patent for “AI Structural Drawing Review System”2025.08.27

GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) announced that it has filed a patent for its “AI Structural Drawing Review System,” the first AI-based drawing verification solution in the Korean construction industry. The system is designed to prevent human errors during structural design review by using advanced AI recognition and comparison technologies.

Developed jointly with AI solution startup Teamwork Co., Ltd., the system has been under co-development since 2024 and recently completed its patent filing. It was also piloted at selected construction sites earlier this year.
The core of this technology lies in its ability to automate the review and comparison of design drawings using Large Language Model (LLM) technology. The AI recognizes structural drawings, converts them into structured data, and quickly identifies inconsistencies or potential errors. It also automatically manages change histories by comparing updated drawings against previous versions.

Traditionally, design documents were produced by multiple parties and frequently revised, often leading to discrepancies and errors between different versions. Manual comparison work was time-consuming and error-prone, and tracking the revision history proved difficult. This resulted in inefficiencies and higher risks of design errors propagating to the construction phase.

By integrating AI into this process, GS E&C’s new system automatically records design changes, enabling systematic version control. Built on a cloud-based collaboration platform, it allows for real-time issue sharing and cross-departmental coordination, enhancing workflow transparency and efficiency.

GS E&C stated that the goal of this development is to eliminate potential sources of construction errors and create a safer and more reliable building environment. The company plans to further expand the system’s application scope to include AI-based design adequacy review, drone and robot-integrated rebar inspection automation, and other smart construction solutions across various project stages.

GS E&C official commented “By actively applying AI to repetitive or high-risk tasks, we aim to prevent human errors and industrial accidents, while strengthening structural safety from design to construction.”
