GS Engineering & Construction (GS E&C) has officially entered India’s renewable energy market, becoming the first Korean company to participate in a solar power project as a developer. On the 27th, GS E&C announced the completion of the Patur Solar Park in Maharashtra, India, marking the start of its commercial operations. With a total capacity of 12.75 MWp—equivalent to approximately 12–13 soccer fields—the solar park is expected to generate 18–20 million kWh of electricity annually, enough to power around 6,000 households for one year. Compared to fossil-fuel-based power generation, the project is expected to reduce approximately 8,000 tons of CO₂ emissions per year, contributing to the global transition toward carbon neutrality. As the project developer, GS E&C was responsible for construction and will operate the facility, directly selling the electricity generated. Approximately 69% of the total output (13.9 GWh annually) will be supplied to Iljin Global India over the next 25 years, while the remaining electricity will be sold to a local real estate developer in India. The project adopts the Open Access Captive model, which allows companies to procure electricity directly through the transmission and distribution network. As electricity tariffs continue to rise in India, demand for renewable energy sources such as solar and wind power is increasing, highlighting strong growth potential for this business model. To prepare for its entry into the Indian renewable energy market, GS E&C established a local renewable energy development corporation in 2023.A GS E&C official stated “Through this project, we aim to solidify our position as a renewable energy developer in India and expand our portfolio beyond solar into wind power. By collaborating with Korean companies operating in India and diversifying our customer base, we plan to lead the global carbon neutrality era.”
